Satire as self-defence – meeting the feeling of doom with wit, conviction and humour.

Reading with Petra Hartlieb

When Florian Scheuba reads, shaking your head turns into laughter – and laughter into a clearer view. On 21 November 2026, the cabaret artist, author and actor will be our guest at Refugium Lunz, presenting his new book “Die Welt geht unter, aber mich nichts an”.

The environment, biodiversity, democracy, human rights, truth and the hope for a better future: everything seems to be drifting down the stream, while on the bank people still argue over who threw it in. Scheuba stands right in the middle of it, looking for ways to rescue what can be rescued and wondering whether this stream hasn’t long since become mainstream. To the daily dose of outrage – from Trump to Kickl – he responds with countermeasures that work: satire as self-defence.

An evening for everyone who wants to meet the end of the world with intelligence, conviction and a good dose of Viennese wit. Words that relieve and wake you up at the same time – set against the quiet atmosphere of Refugium Lunz.

As part of our literary series, selected authors are invited to Refugium Lunz. Curated by Petra Hartlieb, who has accompanied us from the beginning with her fine instinct for voices, themes and remarkable books, the series brings writers to Lunz whose work moves, surprises or simply deserves to be told – each in their own distinctive way.

Those who wish can combine the reading with a stay: leaving time for conversation, for retreat, or for a good book that lingers long after the final page.
