Between lake, forest and long summer evenings.
Four Perfect Days in August
August makes it easy. The lake invites you in for a refreshing swim even before breakfast, the air carries the scent of forest and sun-warmed stone, and the evenings stretch on before slowly fading into colour.
SUNDAY: Arriving
Anreisen. Aussteigen. Durchatmen.
Arrive. Step out. Take a deep breath.
Perhaps the suitcase remains unpacked for a little while longer. After your welcome drink, it’s time to head to the lakeshore. A first swim at the Seebad Lunz am See, a first dive into the emerald-green water.
If you feel like staying on the water a little longer, hire a boat from Leichtfried Boat Rental and glide across the calm lake. Rowboat, pedal boat or electric boat – the choice is yours. In the evening, settle by the shore for the first sunset of the week before a freshly made bed calls for a restful night.
MONDAY: Cycling, a Picnic and Ice Cream
Der Tag beginnt mit Frühstück. Gut gestärkt, aber nicht überladen. Danach aufs Rad und ein Stück des Ybbstalradwegs erkunden – flach, schattig und immer nah am Wasser.
The day begins with breakfast. Nourishing, but never too much. Then it’s time to hop on a bike and explore part of the Ybbstal Cycle Path – mostly flat, pleasantly shaded and always close to the water.
Stop for a picnic along the way, then return to Lunz for an ice cream at the lakeside Café, Summer can be wonderfully simple.
TUESDAY: Into the Cool. Out into the Wild.
If you enjoy exploring underground worlds, visit the Ötscher-Tropfsteinhöhle – a landscape of stalactites, stalagmites and an underground lake where time seems to pass differently.
For those looking for a little more adventure, the Taglesbach canyon offers an unforgettable canyoning experience with the Rafting Camp Palfau. With a meeting point near Lunz am See and guidance from certified professionals, the thrill stays exactly where it belongs.
WEDNESDAY: One More Adventure. Then a Shared Table.
For a final excursion, head to the gorge Nothklamm – narrow walkways, cool water and one last touch of adrenaline before it’s time to think about heading home.
Back at Refugium Lunz in the evening.
One Table. One Meal. Our Wednesday dinner belongs to Refugium Lunz just as much as the sound of the Ybbs River. Around one large shared table we serve a multi-course tasting experience inspired by the region and the season. Sometimes, guests are even invited to take a look behind the scenes in the kitchen. An evening made for sharing – the courses, the conversations and the experience itself.
