Between lake, forest and good food.
Four Perfect Days in June
June makes it easy. The meadows are lush, the lake is clear, and the air carries the scent of forest, water and sun-warmed wood.
SUNDAY: Arriving
Anreisen. Aussteigen. Durchatmen.
Arrive. Step out. Take a deep breath.
Perhaps the suitcase remains unpacked for a little while longer. And after your welcome drink, it’s time to head outside. A first walk around Lake Lunz, easing gently into this place. Into the green. Into the water. Into a pace that feels different from everyday life.
Those who wish can take a swim in the cool lake. Or warm up in the sauna and let the rush of recent days fade away. Afterwards, seasonal dishes from the region await in the restaurant. Later, the Salonküche invites you to gather once more, chat, enjoy a drink and share a laugh before a fresh bed calls for a good night’s sleep.
MONDAY: Exploring by Bike and on Foot
The day begins with breakfast. Nourishing, but never too much. Then it’s off by bicycle to the trailhead and onwards along a beautiful route towards the Durchlass area, rewarded by views of the Dürrenstein. Depending on your mood, the weather and your legs, this can become a short outing or a fulfilling hike of two to four hours.
In the evening, head up to the rustic Almgasthaus Rehberg. Eat. Sit. Watch the sun set. Perhaps talk. Perhaps remain silent.
TUESDAY: Waterways and Old Stories
Water sets the tone. The Mendlingtal leads across wooden walkways, steps and paths through a historic cultural landscape. The “Auf dem Holzweg” experience trail combines nature and history and can be explored in around two hours.
Or discover one of the Mostviertel’s most beautiful river landscapes in the Erlaufschlucht. Untouched in character, yet wonderfully accessible. Even Emperor Franz Joseph I was said to have admired it.
In the evening, dinner awaits at the Schlosstaverne, with its cosy garden close to the southern shore of the lake.
WEDNESDAY: One More Adventure. Then a Shared Table.
For those seeking something a little wilder, the Wasserlochklamm invites mindful exploration through narrow canyons and past five impressive waterfalls. For a quieter experience, there is the mystical Hochmoor. Both tell stories of water. And of landscapes that were never meant to be rushed through.
Back at Refugium Lunz in the evening.
One table. One meal. A culinary finale worthy of the occasion. Our Wednesday dinner, One Table, One Meal, belongs to Refugium Lunz just as much as the sound of the Ybbs River. It celebrates shared enjoyment, bringing together food, place and people around one table.
